About the festival

Wake up! Heads up!

Military romance and living history again for 2 full days.

VIII. International Military Culture and Military Festival in the middle of the country in Táborfalva 16-17 September 2023.

In 2023, in honor of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian Defense Forces, the HMFEST Military Heritage and Recreation Association will organize a celebration on 16-17 September. Between 16th and 16th September, HMFEST will organize its 8th annual military show in a truly authentic and iconic new location in Táborfalva (Örkénytábor), on the former Royal Hungarian Riding School, on the horse ground at the end of Honvéd Street, on an area of almost 10 hectares, in the style of the "War and Peace Show" as in the South of England.

For the visitors of the 2-day event, this year's military festival has several innovations in store. Visitors will not only see soldiers from different historical periods marching to and for but will also be able to participate in a series of pre-composed interactive battle scenes, complete with pyrotechnics, ranging from nomadic warfare to World War II. It is hoped that the catering facilities in the reimagined vehicle-free zone will offer guests a pleasant gastronomic experience in addition to the unparalleled military experience and the wonders of military vehicles.

Nearly a hundred restored 20th century military vehicles will arrive from all over the country. Tanks, artillery vehicles, armored and amphibious vehicles, cars, off-road vehicles, bicycles and motorcycles, emergency vehicles, news vehicles and utility vehicles, among which there will be some truly unique curiosities.

The trade stands and tents will be full of all kinds of military treasures, including military antiques, vehicle parts, books, memorabilia, costumes, and uniforms from vadas to food stalls!

In addition to the "battle site", this year's shady trees around the forming square will host groups and individuals presenting living history, dioramas, traditionalists who will give a taste of 1000 years of military history. They show what life was like away from the barracks, front lines, and battlefields. Civilian vehicles and other peacetime activities in the hinterland will also be displayed, bringing the history of the period even closer to the public. RC modelers will come from all over the country and will once again show off their top-of-the-range models, and of course, with their usual professionalism, they will share their knowledge and experience through spectacular demonstrations, entertaining most of the festival's audience.

For those who like real aircraft, there will also be a surprise in store, as the Parade will feature one or two birds in the sky, and in 2023 the so-called "air zone" will be reopened, where everything will revolve around military aviation.

The airsoft base, built especially for this event, will feature life-like weapons and a shooting range.

New in catering: a permanent indoor gastro tent and restaurant with panoramic views of the show, but not least several small bars with a wide selection of cold refreshments and tea/coffee during the day, providing a refreshing break for those who want to take a break from the excitement!

Of course, this year there will be no shortage of interesting shows and presentations of military life (e.g., on the development of the Örkénytabor, snapshots of the life of the late camp, contemporary reports.)

And for those who decide to spend the evening with us, there will be a nomadic tent city and RETRO club music in the hosts' gastro-tent, and the long-forgotten common military chanting with harmonica, accordion and lyrics projection will take center stage next to the campfire.

Visitors and exhibitors will be able to access up-to-date information online via a live livestream. Look for it on our website during the festival.

Travelling to the VIII. Military Culture Festival in the middle of the country could not be easier, as the iconic Táborfalva venue is in the middle of the Budapest-Lajosmizse-Kecskemét railway line.

From neighboring towns, the venue is a convenient 15–20-minute drive away, with large free parking facilities for those arriving by car.

--------------

Overseas and in Western Europe, successful events such as our festival have been held for decades, and there is now a distinct "military hipster" feel to the festival (e.g., the War and Peace Show in the South of England). Following successful examples and with the help of the popular camp, the largest recreational military, sports-themed national event, and thematic festival in the region will be held for the eighth time.

Battle scenes, dioramas, military recreational sports demonstrations, and fun games for children will dazzle visitors to the VIII Military Culture and Military Festival for 2 days, spiced up with a high-quality military show and interactive military programs.

Accordingly, the theme of the parade is nothing less than a cheerful, chirpy weekend "barracks life" with the official slogan: Sign up for 2 days as a "soldier"!

By visiting our constantly updated website and browsing the photo galleries of previous years, you can get an insight into the atmosphere of this unusual, themed festival.
